The Lair of the Bear

THE LAIR OF THE BEAR

PREFACE

MONDAY, JULY 20th, 1998. SIX FORTY P.M. NORTH KOREAN
TIME AT THE KOREAN VILLAGE OF HUICHON

Major Frank Pizzorusso’s forces quickly found themselves mired down in a mop up operation in North Korea against the Russian rebel troops. The major split his troops up into a defensive mode in order to get the best use from them. Some of the soldiers were guarding the Russian prisoners captured in the initial attack. Others American troops were in the field looking for the two missing Russian officers who escaped his trap. The remaining soldiers were busy working against time to remove the nuclear warheads from the three Russian missiles capture in tact during the fight. Major Pizzorusso was pissed he lost three of the nuclear warhead tipped missiles and the delivery systems in the fighting, when the three missiles were destroyed as they lifted off the mobile launchers. He was determined to guard the remaining nuclear warheads with his life, and the lives of his troops as well if necessary.

Major Pizzorusso had been an officer in the service for long enough to realize he had only so much time in the target area for the removal of the warheads, before other troops from either North Korea or Russia assembled against them. If they arrived on the scene, it would put the kibosh on his plan to try and get away with the nine intact nuclear warheads, and the Russian secret missile’s control and guidance systems. Major Pizzorusso stood on a parked armor vehicle and he was screaming like a madman at his troops working on the Russian warheads. He jumped down and he mingled in with the workers as he screamed at anyone who crossed his path.

“Get them god damn things secured on the fucking pallets and loaded into them damn vehicles, and get the hell out of here on the double quick. The security guards I sent out before will prevent anyone from stopping your convoy until it enters South Korea. Move it out people the warheads have to be delivered to United States command in South Korea as soon as possible. When they’re loaded up, don’t wait for anything, take off. We have company coming and I want these damn things out of here before it arrives.” Major Pizzorusso bellowed at the troops as he shoved some of the soldiers doing nothing and bitched at them. “Hey shit head, find something to fucking do, give someone a god damn hand before I bury my foot up your ass for ya man.”

Other of his troops were securing the battlefield and surrounding area, preparing to fight off any Russian or North Korean probes they knew were coming their way, and soon. Major Pizzorusso was constantly glancing down the highway Lieutenant Robert Walker and the rest of his group used, in order to intercept the missing rebel Russian Lieutenant Colonel, Otto Mikhailchenko, before he successfully escaped into the vastness of Russia. The missing rebel Russian colonel was in command of the SOFC, Special Operations Force Command, part of the elite Soviet Strategic Rocket Force, and he was in charge of this mission as well. He was responsible for the theft of the six SS-20 Saber 3/ mobile transport/erector nuclear missile launchers from Russia.

The advancing troops called in the photographers to record what they discovered. Many Korean citizens left alive in the all but destroyed cities were the so called walking wounded, taxing the advancing American troops further. The international Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations move in, and they speedily started to set up some makeshift hospitals and feeding centers with the help of the soldiers from the Allied countries. China refused to stop the terrible slaughter of the North Koreans, as they retreated from the country. The departing Chinese soldiers destroyed and looted anything of value in the nation.

Major Pizzorusso thought he could really use Walker’s savvy in dealing with the irate enemy soldiers if they had to engage them. He believed the Russian troops moved out in order to block his men from taking the Russian warheads to the United States side of the Korean Peninsula.

At the present time, the missing Russian colonel was a fugitive to the United States and Russia alike, and he was believed to be heading for the safety of Russia from North Korea, where he drove the six stolen missile launchers from, in an effort to launch them at selected Chinese cities. Colonel Mikhailchenko left his forces in total disarray, leaving them behind to defend his escape, and to be slaughtered by the American major’s troops sent in to North Korea in an attempt to stop the launching of missiles at China. It didn’t seem to matter much to this Russian officer he lead three hundred of his fine soldiers to their death, not to mention the Russian troops his forces killed while they were attacking the Russian Strategic Missile Base stationed at the Russian city of Vladivostok to steal the missile launchers in the first place.

The colonel’s plan was once the missiles were launched from North Korea, and China retaliated against North Korea for the attack. Colonel Mikhailchenko’s intention was to force the present and weakened Russian administration to come to the aide of their North Korean communist allies. This he knew they would never do. It was his idea to back the President of the State Committees, Wassily Vanuyto, who was going to challenge the Russian President, and dethrone him. He would then take over command of the government, and place the Communist in control of Russia, and her nuclear weapons and armed services. He wanted to make Russia the power she once was.

When this part of the mission has been accomplished, the new President of Russia was to send a message out to the American government, stating they were no longer interested in any of America’s help. The new government had no intention of repaying the monies lent by the United States and other countries like England and Japan, to help her economy and starving citizens.

The State Committee President, Wassily Vanuyto also planned to launch a nuclear missile strike against China, bringing her down to her knees by destroying most of China’s major cities and ports, and the command centers as well. He was well aware the Chinese military was severely crippled, due to her recent and very costly war with the United States over the island of Taiwan. He had no intention of allowing China to recover, now that she was down and hurting so terribly.

The Communist Russian Committee leader was aware of Russia’s weakened state; this made the timing crucial, and now was the time to attack. China was in worse shape than Russia because of the wars with Korea, Taiwan and America. Vanuyto assembled information, telling him China was right on the verge of perfecting a long range ICBM capable of reaching the very heart of Russia, Moscow. It also had the ability of hitting America’s shores, and he wasn’t going to allow China to develop a missile of such great distance. The Communist leader knew if the Chinese had the capability of hitting Moscow with any of their nuclear missiles, she would attack instantly.

State Committee President Vanuyto knew the reason why China never attacked Russia before this time, was due to Russia’s nuclear capability, and their long range missiles, placing every Chinese city under cross hairs of a nuclear attack. But armed with this new missile, would place China on an even par with Russia’s strength. Mixing this threat with the fact China’s armies meant only one thing to the State Committee President Vanuyto. The only thing stopping the Chinese from attacking Russia was the poorly defended barbed wire border areas.

Comrade Vanuyto didn’t plan to help America one iota, instead, his motivation was solely to overthrow the Russian government, and replace it with a pro-Communist administration lead by him, and he would return the great pride of old Russia to the ones who deserved it the most, the Russian people and Communists. He was against the massive monetary aid flooding his nation from the hated United States, it was driving him insane. It was the reason he thought about, and knew if he waited longer to act; it would be too late for the Communists and his nation to act at all. China would have perfected its long range missile soon. And then America would be such a controlling factor in Russia’s future, nothing any faithful Russian patriot could do, would ever free Russia from the yoke of America’s control or influence. The Russian technicians and scientist would have long fled his country, selling their knowledge to the United States, some Arab nations, or any country who was offering the unemployed Russian technicians some work and steady pay.

State Committees President Wassily Vanuyto, was a stout Communist follower, and he sat in his now office and bunker alone, waiting for the first communication from his Colonel Otto Mikhailchenko to filter in. He hoped the Russian colonel successfully fulfilled his mission, and he had launched his stolen missiles at the very heart of the Dragon, China. Vanuyto had no idea of the fiasco which had befallen Colonel Mikhailchenko’s forces he authorized to move the stolen missile launchers into North Korea, and then begin the war which would enable him to take over power in the Russian government, and return the Communists to the seat of power again.
